Love is not jealous (self-seeking)
Jealousy is a want or need to possess something and to exclude everyone else. Jealousy does not seek another's best; it seeks to hide away its object to enjoy it in solitude or to flaunt it on rare occasions.
God's love seeks only our best and He does not force us to accept what it is best, He knows that his Love is so complete that we'll recognize it and hopes we’ll turn to Him by choice. God's Love is sacrificial and giving; a jealous love is divisive and controlling.
Parts of Scripture describe God as a Jealous God:
Deuteronomy 4:23-24 (New International Version)
23 Be careful not to forget the covenant of the LORD your God that he made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the LORD your God has forbidden. 24 For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.

But Paul describes a proper jealousy this way:
2 Corinthians 11:2 (New International Version)
I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.

There is no contradiction in God decrying Jealousy as the opposite of love and still being a Jealous God. God's drawing love that compels us to Him and awakens our soul, allows us to choose between what is best and what we demand. But God's sustaining love for those who have committed to Him is jealous, in a way of regarding a broken contract. We have told Him that we surrender and He is in control and then wrest back control only to our detriment. At that time, God's judgment and love look at us in pity. He wants us back, He is jealous for our love. But...
He does not hurt us for His own gratification. He seeks to restore us in Grace and Love.
